We cleaned this historical building and the owners wanted us to maintain the property’s character and aged charm.
We used our DOFF sympathetic blast cleaning system to clean the property which saved time and money, made the building look great and restored the building’s grandeur, all thanks to Heritage Blast Cleaning.
The Process
Scaffolding was already in place as we cleaned the roof, which had a lot of biological growth and staining. It was important not to ‘over clean’ the roof as we needed to maintain the old look of the exterior, while removing growth that could have harmed the building.
We used our DOFF cleaning system to deliver a low-pressure, high-temperature clean to the building and it allowed other workmen to continue with their jobs at the site as there were no harsh chemicals or high-pressure equipment used.
We brought our own water tanks as other tradesmen needed the mains water supply for their work.
Farmhouse Stone House Cleaning
The sandstone areas of this period farmhouse in Westerham, Kent, had to be cleaned. We had to individually treat separate areas because of where it was located and because of previous usage.
The retaining wall and north elevation of the main building had deteriorated faster than the other wall areas because of moss and lichen growth, so we used the DOFF cleaning system to remove it without causing any surface damage to the stonework. We were also able to kill the bacteria spores to stop regrowth and this was done without the need for chemical treatments.
The Jos-Torc system helped clean the other walls which had dark carbon deposits.
The Inside Of The Building
As the basement had been used for coal storage and the customer wanted all original details to be kept intact, we found crushed coal dust in all the recesses.
This was removed by a high pressure small port airline and a high suction vacuum cleaner before the Jos-Torc cleaning system dried and removed the staining without damaging the stone faces.
